Anyone got any suggestions as to easily available 'decent' books on this campaign?

I believe there are a couple of Battleground Europe books on this front....are they any good as a starter for 10?

The one on Asiago is not a bad read and has some pretty good detail.

BE Asiago is by my friend Francis McKay and good and quite useful on the ground, I've been twice. There is another by a man and wife, can't remember name, has all the information but is dry dry dry! Will take a look at home.

I wouldn't start with the BE volumes if you want to understand the campaign.

Try

> George Cassar "The forgotten front: the British campaign in Italy 1917-1918"

> John and Eileen Wilks "The British army in Italy 1917-1918"

> The volume of the Official History, which is very good.

You might find this MA dissertation interesting too: http://www.firstworldwar.bham.ac.uk/edisse...issertation.pdf

Missed out the last three.

Wilks, J & Wilks, E "The British Army in Italy 1917-1919" Barnsley 1998

Wilks, J & Wilks, E "Rommel and Caporetto October, 1917" Barnsley 2001 (ISBN: 0850527724)

Wyrall, R E "The Gloucestershire Regiment in the War 1914-18" London 1931

A number of these were obviously named by earlier posters.
