Halder Posted 6 August , 2008 Share Posted 6 August , 2008 This just surfaced on my "suggestions list" on Amazon; I didn't realise there was a paperback. Definitely worth £13, or £7 for the second-hand copies. It's not easy going, by any stretch of the imagination, but it is the most comprehensive account of the battle by far. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1574887...;pf_rd_i=468294
John Gilinsky Posted 15 August , 2008 Share Posted 15 August , 2008 With the destruction of many of the primary archival sources in ww2 the author used extensively German unit hisotries. While this is interesting it also makes for confusion due to going into excruiciating details too frequently while we just want the general picture. He could have also (barring money and publishing deadlines) have probably used the Bavarian War Archives and even the Austro-Hungarian archives to a lesser extent for a more accurate picture but this might have only added time and expense to him.
