bodhranlady Posted 27 February , 2004 Share Posted 27 February , 2004 I am back again for more information for the play. As I live in the Highlands I want one of the characters to be a Seaforth Highlander. I have the correct kilt, sporran and glengarry but want to know what sort of jacket this sergeant would have worn. Would it be just the 'normal' army wear? Any help would be much appreciated and a picture would be wonderful Many thanks Again Val
tintin1689 Posted 27 February , 2004 Share Posted 27 February , 2004 The Highland regiments had their own variant of the 1902 SD jacket. The skirts of the jacket form rounded corners at the front meeting bit below the lowest button to allow better for the wearing of a sporran rather than going straight down and ending at right angle as in a standard jacket (Please excuse this inelegant turn of phrase, I am not a tailor, but hope it is helping you form am mental picture). In full dress this style of jacket was known as an "Inverness Doublet".
