jcebell Posted 4 March , 2004 Share Posted 4 March , 2004 We are looking for details on how to trace when our gt gt grand father enlisted in the LFs. We have seen a Territorial Forces Efficiency Medal of his which has the head of King Edward VII on it (pre-1910?) and states " 291 Pte J Burns 8/Lanc Fus", we know that James also served in the 2nd Anglo-Boer War, presmably with the LF or one of their battalions. What would James have been awarded this medal for? How can we find when he enlisted with the LFs? Does the service number help at all? James went on to serve in WW1 with the 15th LF (Pte, 11043) in the same unit that his son was killed at Thiepval, and was wounded and transferred to the Labour Corps (Pte, 269525). Do any of these service numbers help to indicate where he enlisted in these units? Any help is gratefully received... The Bells
