Robert Dunlop Posted 25 October , 2008 Share Posted 25 October , 2008 Do you mean memoirs translated into English? If so, these are some examples: 'The Memoirs of Marshal Joffre' by Joffre 'French Headquarters' by Jean de Pierrefeu 'Behind the Scenes at German Headquarters' by Henri Domelier 'A French Soldier's War Diary 1914-1918' by Desagneaux 'Britain and the War' by General Huguet 'Chasseur of 1914' by Marcel Du Pont Robert
David Filsell Posted 26 October , 2008 Share Posted 26 October , 2008 There are surprisingly few translation of French memoirs/accounts. If you read French I recommend (in English) "War Books" by Jan Norton Cru; a somewhat idiosyncratic and scholarly analysis and crit and bibliography. The 1988 edition was published by San Diego University Press. The Original edition is available from French dealers. Hope this helps. trenchtrotter Posted 26 October , 2008 Share Posted 26 October , 2008 Under Fire by Henri Barbusse a classic. Battles and Bivouacs by Jaques Roujon. Tragedie Bouffe by Rene Arnaud. Memoirs of War 1914 1915 by Marc Bloch TT The middle two are hard to find and you would need to contact specialist dealers. Memoirs is also out of print but under fire should be easy to get. truthergw Posted 26 October , 2008 Share Posted 26 October , 2008 If you read French go to the French site of Amazon. fr. There are many French memoirs in very cheap paperback editions. ABE FR is also a good source for older out of prints.
George Armstrong Custer Posted 26 October , 2008 Share Posted 26 October , 2008 A Crusader of France : lettres d'un officier de chasseurs alpins by Captain Ferdinand Belmont, with a preface by Henry Bordeaux. This was published in English translation after the author's death in 1917 and would be available through interlibrary loan.
