mickrose Posted 26 October , 2008 Share Posted 26 October , 2008 Hi, My uncle signed the 'Short Service' form (army form B2512) two days before his 18th birthday in August 1916. I assumed he was a 'conscript', but that word is not actually mentioned anywhere on the form. Would he definitely have been a conscript or possibly not? Mick. Chris_Baker Posted 27 October , 2008 Share Posted 27 October , 2008 Definitely. The paperwork does not contain the word conscript or any variation of it. Conscription means the man was deemed to have enlisted.
mickrose Posted 27 October , 2008 Author Share Posted 27 October , 2008 Thanks Chris, I was asked to write a brief summary of his life (he's one of six men chosen to feature on commemorative stamps this year, and I put . . .' and enlisted on 14th August'. Better get 'em to change it then! Thanks. Mick.
