Guest S. Berkshire Posted 15 March , 2004 Share Posted 15 March , 2004 Found this photo amongst some old family photos - no idea of any connection to our family, but wondered if anyone might be interested in it. Any comments warmly received. There is some accompanying text that has been reproduced separately on the next message.

HERITAGE PLUS Posted 15 March , 2004 Share Posted 15 March , 2004 The 66th later (1881) became 2nd Batt Royal Berks. Regt. The Berks amalgamated with the Wilts. Regt. to form the Duke of Edinburghs Royal Regt (DERR). Bobby was stuffed and is still on view at the Regimental Museum at Salisbury. Dave

Paul Nixon Posted 15 March , 2004 Share Posted 15 March , 2004 Poor old Bobbie. Bad enough to be accidentally killed having survived the Afghan war but then to be stuffed and shoved in a glass case...
mac Posted 15 March , 2004 Share Posted 15 March , 2004 Reference 'Bobbie' I attach a picture of him taken at Osbourne House on the I.O.W. after the 66th returned from Afghanistan. He was presented to Queen Victoria who mentions it in her Journal. As stated above he is in a pride of place in the Regimental Museum in Salisbury. Cheers MAC
paul guthrie Posted 15 March , 2004 Share Posted 15 March , 2004 Poor old Bobbie. Bad enough to be accidentally killed having survived the Afghan war but then to be stuffed and shoved in a glass case... As bluegrass great Mac Wiseman sang, "Tis sweet to be remembered, remembered, remembered"
