The Last Great War: British Society and the First World War

I'm actually reading this at the minute. Although it's an academic book, it's not too difficult to read and is obviously the product of a lot of research. The focus is on the Home Front so if you're looking for info on 'active service' it's not the book for you. There are chapters on reactions to the outbreak of war, atrocities of propaganda, ideas of sacrifice and the role of religion (which is as far as I've got!). My copy was £17.99 (Waterstones) and I think it's the same on Amazon and it's good value for that. The author has a number of good publications dealing with aspects of the Great War and this is a worthy addition to the list.
