There were just a few casualties in the days before and after Smith's death.

Nothing suggests that our man, or his unit, was engaged in anything other than trench-holding duties.

RACING TEAPOTS

I cant add much to the story of this man.I can say that Clifton Wood was

,and still is,an up-market area of Bristol.Redcliffe,at that time,would have been mostly an area of tenaments.It might be that he was born in a hospital in Clifton Wood and was brought up in Redcliffe.I would suggest that his early,in age,enlistment was a way of getting out of,what could have been a very deprived background.I have no facts to back any of this up.I do have sixty odd years knowledge of the general area.
