hmsk212 Posted 2 April , 2004 Share Posted 2 April , 2004 Hi Can any of you MGC experts help ? I have recently acquired an IGS with Waziristan 1919-21 Clasp to a man with the Regimental Number of 7807051. I believe that the new 7 digit numbers were issued in 1920 and that the MGC were allocated numbers starting with 780700. Does the number 7807051 mean that the man was high up the foodchain if the numbers were issued by seniority or were they issued by Battalion or indeed just alphabetically ? HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 2 April , 2004 Share Posted 2 April , 2004 His Number was 50th number issued,& probably just meant he was possessor of the 50th lowest pre 1920 Number, which judging from his IGS is probably true,or 50th on the nominal roll when numbers were changed, comparing this with numbering of other units,is more than likely,to be certain you would need to compare the Medal Roll service 7 digit numbers & cross reference them with Pre 1920{ie WW1} Numbers of the same personnel.
