He was a Grazier from Tabalam NSW but is shown as born in Fiji. His personal file will need to asked to find out more. For your interst. I'll have to double check that one, but his number of 6914 indicates a very late enlistment for the 18th battalion as they only went up to the low 7000's. My guess is that it's a good chance that it's the same William Barnes. Do you have the age of the William Barnes who enlisted in the Fiji Contingent? Many are idervigal photos but also included many group shots. The only problem is searching for them, most Liberies have them recorded in a book/register in which you can check to see if he is mentioned in a news paper then its essyer to find them. You should also be aware of a number of personal photos published in book form post war by a number of states showing large numbers of there men/women at the war.
