Memorial Scrolls for Tank Corps casualties

I have just been shown some very nice memorial scrolls to two men who died in February and March 1917.

On SDGW these men are listed as Tank Corps. On the CWGC they are listed as Tank Corps.

But I didn't think the Tank Corps had been officially named as such until July. So I would have thought that the unit, recorded on the scroll, should have been Heavy Branch Machine Gun Corps.

Can anyone confirm that this was a ususal practice, associating these men with the Tank Corps, carried out post-war (and backdated, if you see what I mean)....??

Does anyone have medals for soldiers who were killed just prior to the formation of the Tank Corps and can tell me how they are inscribed....??
