1st Devonshires

I would appreciate it greatly if someone could advise me as precisely as possible of the 1st Devons position(s) for the second half of Sept 1914, from about the 14th. The War Diary is a bit vague, hopefully someone has another tome which can do the job better.

Thanks

Jon.

They were at Braine on the 14th Sept., taking over reserve positions on the western side of the Vailly-Jouy road. They moved into the front line on the 15th.

Is this any help?

Dave.

Yes, thank you, Dave, your information is of some help to me. I knew about them being in Braine, but not about the area of their reserve positions, so that has narrowed things down rather nicely.

However, the powers that be definitely have something against offering their positions in the front trenches. It is always referred to as 'the front line', no other defining information than that, and to me, as it would be to most of us I guess, is not as specific as desired.
