DirtyDick Posted 17 April , 2004 Share Posted 17 April , 2004 Hello Just wondering whether anyone could give me an overview of the training volunteers in 1914-15 received prior to being sent to war. What kind of physical training was undertaken; how much emphasis was placed on drill and how much on weapons' training, etc.? I know that later recruits spent less time in training, but for how long did the original volunteers train? Was this training comparable to pre-war regular training? Also, I believe that such recruits did not literally receive the King's Shilling upon enlistment (i.e. being presented with this symbolic payment in the form of a new coin). Am I correct in thinking this? Thanks for any info. Richard
