It appears to be fitted with the early arrestor wire catcher on the undercart (when the wires ran along the deck rather than across but were not very effective which might account for the predicament the aircraft is in) . The markings look post WW1. The IIIA was designed for aircraft carrier use and entered service towards the end of 1918. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
