Kate Wills Posted 19 April , 2004 Share Posted 19 April , 2004 If I remember rightly, the commentary in the first episode of BBC's 1964 Great War series states that the central London Army recruiting office had a very quiet day on that last ordinary working day prior to the declaration of war, when just two new recruits enlisted. Does anyone know who they were, and what happened to them?
Ed Matthews Posted 19 April , 2004 Share Posted 19 April , 2004 According to my database, there was at least one enlistment to the Grenadier Guards on 1st August 1914. Private 17154 Thomas Bach was subsequently discharged with frostbite on 10 August 1916. Unfortunately, I cannot confirm where he enlisted.
