museumtom Posted 19 April , 2004 Share Posted 19 April , 2004 If a soldier of the 7th batt Royal Irish regiment died of wounds on the 12th of December (the same day 21 of his unit were killed in action) he was buried in VILLERS-FAUCON Communal Cemetery Extension would this indicate he was involved in the battle of cambrai? Is Cambrai near to this cemetery? Any Ideas would be most welcome. Thanks in advance pals. regards. Tom
Bob Coulson Posted 20 April , 2004 Share Posted 20 April , 2004 Tom, Not much help but Villers Faucon is just outside Peronne. Bob.
Robert Dunlop Posted 20 April , 2004 Share Posted 20 April , 2004 Tom The date is too late for the Battle of Cambrai. Only the 2nd Btn Royal Irish gets a mention in the British Official History, which ends on the 4th December. There is reference to the action on Welsh Ridge on 30th December right at the end.
