rendellers Posted 11 August , 2009 Share Posted 11 August , 2009 Couldn't find this when I searched for a review which surprised me. This book is the edited Great War Diaries of Georgina Lee, a lady who moved in high society. I thought I might find this annoying but it is fascinating how she jumps around from details of rising food prices, national figures, family tragedies, newspaper reports, refugees, zeppelin raids and the like. The diaries cover 1914 to 1919 and were written as a record of the war years for her baby son. She may not have worked in the munitions factories but did 'charity work' for which she was recognised by the Belgium Governement. I bought it in Ypres on Sunday and finished it this morning in Devon and now really want to find out more about the Home Front. Fascinating!
