healdav Posted 12 August , 2009 Share Posted 12 August , 2009 A couple of days ago when reading the war diaries of the Foreign Legion I came across a couple of unusual trench names. They had named a German trench facing the, "Tranchée des Homosexuels" and leading off it is "Tranchée des Perverts".

bantamforgot Posted 14 August , 2009 Share Posted 14 August , 2009 That was not uncommon when the French named German trenches, they had a policy of so naming trenches being rather uncomplementary to the Germans. To name one well known to the British,"Chimpanzee trench" adopted by us when we took over the area from the French "Tranchee des Chimpanzes" NW of Maricourt. How about "Crotte Boche"? There are many.
