Guest Gary Pearcy Posted 20 April , 2004 Share Posted 20 April , 2004 One thing that I often find difficult to picture when reading about the Great War is the numbers of men involved. Obviously I know that thousands were killed, but if, for example, I am reading about a "platoon" or a "battalion" then I'm not so sure how many poeple this actually involves. Could someone please break this down for me, with numbers attached to categories? Furthermore, I would be really appreciative if someone could do the same for the ranks of soldiers. Many thanks
Chris_Baker Posted 20 April , 2004 Share Posted 20 April , 2004 There is heaps of info about this on The Long, Long Trail website (link appears top left of this very page). Read the section on "army terms and definitions".
