sotonmate Posted 27 August , 2009 Share Posted 27 August , 2009 angus The National Archives have service records for RNR,for Officers under ADM240 and for Ratings under BT377. Issue of campaign medals is covered by ADM171. You could get a copy of your GGUs record and it might say if he was entitled, or received any. Part of his training might have been in a ship under war conditions so he may have qualified, but probably unlikely. I am not sure of the qualification required for Naval personnel,so it is worth trying to get a copy of his record or trying a Catalogue search of the NA. per ardua per mare per terram Posted 27 August , 2009 Share Posted 27 August , 2009 Welcome to the forum, The RNR was drawn from the Mercantile Marine, so he might have qualified for the Mercantile Marine Medal before joining the RNR; the Medal Index Cards for that are on microfiche in BT 351 at the UK National Archives, Kew. ROLL OF NAVAL WAR MEDALS are on microfilm: ADM 171/92 Royal Naval Reserve Officers: A-Mas & ADM 171/93 Mat-Z Royal Naval Reserve: Ratings ADM 171/120 A-Cun to ADM 171/124 Sha-Z
