Jon Miller Posted 21 April , 2004 Share Posted 21 April , 2004 The grandfather of a friend of mine was demobbed after the Great War from, I believe, the 2nd Dublin Fusiliers. On a form is the following - trans. Class 'Z'. 5/4/19. What did this mean? I imagine the date is self-explanatory, but what were the differences in the classes? Yorts Posted 21 April , 2004 Share Posted 21 April , 2004 Hi, This has already been covered in other postings if you do a search for class Z reserve. However, to quote Chris in an earlier response: 'Class Z Army Reserve was the normal last step when troops were demobilised. The man returned to civilian life but under Class Z was subject o recall. Class Z reserve service lasted 12 months.' Rgds, Alex.
