Guest Bowmanera Posted 24 April , 2004 Share Posted 24 April , 2004 The attached is a photograph of my wifes grandfather. He is a bit of a mystery. We can find no record of his birth or marriage. We have his sons birth certificate October 1914 which says that he was Joseph Hodgson. Private Yorks L.I. (Lamp Lighter) Family lore says that he died in 1916 but no details are known. We have looked but been unable to identify his cap badge to support that he was in the Yorks L. I. and we are unable to say how he died. We have no service number or death certificate. There are a number of Joseph Hodgson' s listed in the CWGC records. Has anyone any suggestions as to how we may find out anything about him. Any help welcomed
Ed Matthews Posted 24 April , 2004 Share Posted 24 April , 2004 Hi Bowmanera Looks like Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) to me. There are at least a couple of Joseph Hodgsons killed with this unit listed on the CGWC site. Where does your Joseph hail from? Ed

Bob Coulson Posted 24 April , 2004 Share Posted 24 April , 2004 I'm no badge expert by any means but it certainly looks like Green Howards to me. Bob.
