Guest daveburnley Posted 25 April , 2004 Share Posted 25 April , 2004 Hi there. I'm new to this forum, and to First World War research. My great Grandfather served with The Lancashire Fusileers and later with The Machine Gun Corps (number 88969). I guess the following questions are very common on this forum. However, the following questions have puzzled me: Why would he be in the Lancashire Fusileers, when he lived in North Yorks all his life? Would his MGC number be the same number as when he was with the Lancashire Fusileers? I know he was gassed (would this be on Record)? He survived the war and I have his medals. I presume that in May I should be able to view his medal index card online. Is this correct? Thanks for any help.
Yorts Posted 25 April , 2004 Share Posted 25 April , 2004 Hi, His Lancs Fus. service number should be different from his MGC number. The MIC will confirm this. The PRO shoudl make his MIC available online, but you can get it now by visiting the PRO in person. Rgds, Alex.
