Martin Hornby Posted 28 April , 2004 Share Posted 28 April , 2004 I was in Heilly Station Cemetery last week when I came cross a strange memorial to Lce Corporal J P O'Neill, Service number 1812 of the 13th Battalion (Bombers) AIF. The memorial is in the normal ranks of Graves, and is a column on top of a square plinth. The odd bit is the inscription: 'Accidentally Killed 6th January 1917 R.I.P.' Erected by his comrades. Does anyone know what happened to Lce Corporal O'Neill? Martin
keith Posted 29 April , 2004 Share Posted 29 April , 2004 I was told that a hand grenade was dropped or fell into the trench and he fell or jumped on to it and was killed. His mates with him where all saved ,so they paid for the memorial to be put on his grave. Keith
