David B Posted 23 October , 2009 Share Posted 23 October , 2009 For a change this book is not about what I consider dry facts and figures but is written narrative style and is a gripping stoty of the cruise of SMS Wolf during 1917 1918. The cruise covered a distance of 34000 miles over 444 days, with the ship still beating the Royal Navy blockade whilst only managing to muster a top speed of 7 knots mdue to fouling of the bottom after the long voyage. It appears that it had naval authorities in Australia and New Zealand in knots, trying to explain the sudden disappearances of ships around the Aust/NZ coast. They wouldnt accept the fact that a raider was in the area again. I believe that the book may be available in UK, it is published by Random House Australia which has a offshoot in UK called Transworld. tim_oz Posted 24 October , 2009 Share Posted 24 October , 2009 David I picked this up at the airport a week ago in desperation for something to read and was very pleasantly surprised. A great story well told. Tim B
