Anthony Pigott Posted 17 August , 2004 Author Share Posted 17 August , 2004 I've just realised that there is, in fact, a memorial to the man himself. It's by the Sherwood Foresters tower at Crich. In case you can't read it: "GENTLEMEN WE WILL STAND AND FIGHT" (Le Cateau 1914) TO THE EVER GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THAT GREAT SOLDIER AND GENTLEMAN GENERAL SIR HORACE LOCKWOOD SMITH-DORRIEN GCB, GCMC, DSO COLONEL OF THE SHERWOOD FORESTERS (NOTTINGHAMSHIRE AND DERBYSHIRE REGIMENT) 1905 – 1930 ERECTED AS A TOKEN OF LOVE AND ESTEEM BY HIS COMRADES OF THE REGIMENT IN WHICH HE SERVED FOR SO MANY YEARS "WHOSOEVER LEADS SUCH A LIFE NEED NOT CARE UPON HOW SHORT WARNING IT MAY BE TAKEN FROM HIM" Anthony
KF Kelly Posted 18 August , 2004 Share Posted 18 August , 2004 Hello everyone, I seem to remember a memorial to Albert Ball in the grounds of Nottingham Castle. Kevin
