Promenade Posted 2 May , 2004 Share Posted 2 May , 2004 Hello, I am researching 2nd Lieutenant Rotheram Bagshawe Cecil who was killed on the Somme on 1/7/16 with 1/5 Notts &Derby Regt [he was from Dronfield]. I have come across the following reference ‘His elder brother [no name specified]. . . . joined the Artists Rifles in 1916, but died on November 7th, and our sympathy must indeed go out to their mother in her bereavement.’ The only possible reference to the brother I can find is on the CWGC site ‘Pte F[rederick] R Cecil. No 6923 28th Bn. London Regt (Artists' Rifles). Died 21/12/1916. Dronfield (St. John The Baptist) Church And Churchyard, UK, In Vault in Chancel.’ I cannot find him in the Solders Died listing for 28 Londons. Does anyone know anything else about him? Cannot find him in online MICs so probably did not serve abroad. Tks Joe
Tom Morgan Posted 4 May , 2004 Share Posted 4 May , 2004 Sorry to post a negative reply, but I can't find him in the Artists Rifles Roll of Honour either. Tom
Andrew Hesketh Posted 4 May , 2004 Share Posted 4 May , 2004 Joe, 1901 Census: Rotheram Cecil 6 born Suffolk, Southwood, living Isle Of Wight, Ashey. Frederick Cecil 8 born London, Kensington, living Isle Of Wight, Ashey. I suspect you've found the right man on CWGC.
