Hoplophile Posted 3 May , 2004 Share Posted 3 May , 2004 The Royal Field Artillery had 12 Reserve Brigades to train recruits and serve as reservoirs of men and horses. Infantry regiments had reserve battalions and (in some cases) extra reserve battalions. New Army infantry battalions had reserve battalions associted with them as well. Territorial Force infantry battalions and yeomanry regiments had third-line units to supply them with trained replacements. I have not, as yet, run into any comparable reserve units of the Royal Garrison Artillery. Did the various numbered companies fulfill that role? Was there a distinction made in this regard between Regular Army, Territorial Force and New Army batteries?

Hoplophile Posted 4 May , 2004 Author Share Posted 4 May , 2004 Many thanks for the help! As the only sure reward for a job well done is a follow-on task ... Might I ask you if you know when these units were formed?
