BullerTurner Posted 19 April , 2017 Share Posted 19 April , 2017 I never imagined I would become a spotter with regard to drill squares. However it is Collins Barracks in Dublin, formerly The Barracks or Royal Barracks, which claims that distinction of being the largest in Europe. The former Victoria Barracks was the site of the firing squad execution of Thomas Kent in 1916 - the only leader of the Rising to be executed outside Dublin. Six further executions during the war of independence took place there too, between 28 April and 16 May.. collins Barracks in Dublin may not have the largest parade square in Europe, that is probably Parade Square, Warsaw. However it may well be the largest drill square wholly within a barracks. What have I become??
