joanbelge Posted 22 December , 2009 Share Posted 22 December , 2009 I bought this childrens book a couple of years ago, and have enjoyed reading it to various groups of children aged 7 -11.The children have been moved by the sentiments in the story. For members who dont know the book ,it centers around a letter from a soldier in the Great War who witnessed the Christmas Truce. The twist in the story is very poignant. Although a childrens book I commend it to members and expect that few would read it without a lump in their throat. watchdog Posted 23 December , 2009 Share Posted 23 December , 2009 Also worth a read is Private Peaceful by the same author - I don't want to reveal the plot as it will spoil the twist
SandraB Posted 16 January , 2010 Share Posted 16 January , 2010 . . . and don't forget Michael Morpurgo's "War Horse", I have the version of the book with the lovely illustrations by Francois Place (I'm a child of 40+). I've read the book, seen the play (could have cried from beginning to end) . . . will there be a film? Sandra
