HELLO,

I HAVE FOR YEARS THIS ORIGINAL VC PORTRAIT IN MY COLLECTION. IS THIS SOLDIER COULD BE SIDNEY JAMES DAY, 11 BN THE SUFFOLK RGT, VC AT THE EAST OF HARGICOURT, 26 AUGUST 1917? (NOT SURE, MY OWN SEARCH)?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Welcome to the forum Souvigny. There is every chance that this is Cpl Day. The website The Register of the Victoria Cross has a picture of the Suffolks only other WW1 VC winner, Arthur Frederick Saunders and it is definitely not the same man.

It appears to be identical to a picture of him in the regimental history.

Hi Laurent

This is indeed Cpl Day - the same photo is in the book The Register of the Victoria Cross Third Edition, This England, 1997 [iSBN: 0 906324 27 0 (Hardback)].

Regards

Jimmy
