River97 Posted 11 January , 2010 Share Posted 11 January , 2010 Evening all, I purchased this book about a week ago and have only just put it down. What a stunning book. After the war, in 1919, Charles Bean returned to Gallipoli to complete the history of the campaign. He was accompanied by the war artist George Lambert, photographer Hubert Wilkins and Army advisors who had served during the campaign. Their aim was to collect battlefield relics and create new works of art and photographs to convey the full story of the conflict. The book contains hundreds of photo's from their return to the conflict zone, both from the Allied and Turkish lines. Even four years later the trenches were in remarkable condition, and even the condition of some of the cemeteries. It is a book I would recommend entirely. Cheers Andy. AlanCurragh Posted 13 January , 2010 Share Posted 13 January , 2010 Thanks for posting Andy, sounds like a very interesting book. If only it were easier to get Australian books in the UK! Alan
