Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 11 May , 2004 Share Posted 11 May , 2004 I have just confirmed the identity of an ASC soldier knowing only his number. This required a lot of patience and hit and miss with the BWM/Victory medal roll of the ASC, after having first established he wasn't a casualty from SDGW. One thing to bear in mind when looking up soldiers of the ASC is that regardless of their prefix, ASC numbers were unique ie taking a hypothetical case, there is no T3/57911 & M3/57911, there is either one or the other. What you asking can be done but needs patience and a bit of time. Ian
DirtyDick Posted 11 May , 2004 Share Posted 11 May , 2004 I assume you are asking for the significance of the service number? If the prefix is MT, it stands for Motor Transport, the branch he served with; ASC stands for Army Service Corps. If no name evident, perhaps typing number into PRO On-line might be of help.
