nthornton1979 Posted 11 February , 2010 Share Posted 11 February , 2010 I've just gone to Amazon to order Ray Westlake's Somme book but I'm slightly confused. Is "British Battalion's on the Somme" the same book as "Tracing British Battalion's on the Somme" ? Is the latter a newer version of the original ? Muerrisch Posted 11 February , 2010 Share Posted 11 February , 2010 If you want the pukka 'Somme' in his 4 book series of 'British Battalions on/in....' the one you want is: Leo Cooper, Pen and Sword, ISBN 0 85052 374 5 of 1994. Not a 'reading book', a 'reference book', and invaluable.
nthornton1979 Posted 11 February , 2010 Author Share Posted 11 February , 2010 Thanks for that. That was the one I went to order - http://www.amazon.co.uk/British-Battalions...1189&sr=1-2 but then I spotted this (below) and noticed it has the same number of pages. That prompted me to think it is the same book. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tracing-British-Ba...1189&sr=1-1 Neil
Muerrisch Posted 11 February , 2010 Share Posted 11 February , 2010 yes, I have had a look, you have gone for the hardback: even if t'other softback is otherwise identical, 'Westlake' tends to travel a lot, in and out of boxes, in and out of cars, minivans etc. The hardcover should be more robust!
