I've just gone to Amazon to order Ray Westlake's Somme book but I'm slightly confused.

Is "British Battalion's on the Somme" the same book as "Tracing British Battalion's on the Somme" ?

Is the latter a newer version of the original ?

If you want the pukka 'Somme' in his 4 book series of 'British Battalions on/in....' the one you want is:

Leo Cooper, Pen and Sword, ISBN 0 85052 374 5 of 1994.

Not a 'reading book', a 'reference book', and invaluable.

Thanks for that. That was the one I went to order -

but then I spotted this (below) and noticed it has the same number of pages. That prompted me to think it is the same book.

yes, I have had a look, you have gone for the hardback: even if t'other softback is otherwise identical, 'Westlake' tends to travel a lot, in and out of boxes, in and out of cars, minivans etc. The hardcover should be more robust!
