Dolphin Posted 15 May , 2004 Share Posted 15 May , 2004 2Lt Oswald George Brittorous (formerly South Wales Borderers) was flying Sopwith Camel B5666 of No 209 Sqn RAF, when he was killed in action with Fokker Triplanes on 15 May 1918. A victory was awarded to Leutnant Viktor von Pressentin von Rautter of Jasta 4, who claimed a Camel over Aubercourt. It was von Pressentin's ninth victory; he would amass a total of fifteen before he was killed in action against French Breguet bombers on 31 May 1918. However, 'The Camel File' indicates that Lt Brittorous fell in combat with Albatroses near Beaufort.
Will O'Brien Posted 15 May , 2004 Share Posted 15 May , 2004 Francis Brittorous later became a British General in WW2 Brittorous Francis Gerrard Russell, Major-General (1896-1974) 1940 - 1941Commanding Officer Lancashire Fusiliers 1943 General Officer Commanding Aegean 1946 Retired presumably he also served in WW1. My guess that this is Oswald Brittorous brothers' MIC entry HERE as Frank is the shortened version of Francis..................If I am right in my assumption, Francis Brittorous did serve as a Second Lieutenant with the Loyal North Lancs & then the Manchesters.................no online MIC entry for Oswald himself.............is this because he was RAF even though he had previously served with the army?
