pazz106 Posted 15 May , 2004 Share Posted 15 May , 2004 Does anyone have any firm evidence as to which German Division/Regiments were defending the Montaigne De Bligny (SW of Rheims) when it was taken by the 8TH West Yorks (62ND Division) on 28TH July 1918. Hoplophile Posted 15 May , 2004 Share Posted 15 May , 2004 The single best source for finding the German units which were opposed to British units at any given time on any given sector of the Western Front is the Official History. The reason for this was the presence of Graham Chamley Wynne in the team that wrote the "France and Flanders" volumes. Among other things, Captain Wynne was a great reader of German regimental histories and thus tended to have a good sense of what was going on "on the other side of the hill." Anything apart from what you can find in the official history will have to come from German-language sources - principally the aforementioned regimental histories. I know of several places in North America that have good collections of these histories - the New York Public Library, the libraries of Harvard and Yale universities and the Crerar Collection at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. Unfortunately, I don't know of any comparable library in the United Kingdom.
