larney Posted 27 February , 2010 Share Posted 27 February , 2010 Hi, I don't know if anyone can help, but I have just downloaded an MIC to a man from Neyland, Pembrokeshire, which looks to have HS (Home Service?) (or 4S?) on his MIC. He was entitled to the 1914/15 Star trio, so must have served overseas. Are my eyes right, or does this entry in the theatre box mean something else? Thanks in advance for any help, SteveJ.
joseph Posted 27 February , 2010 Share Posted 27 February , 2010 Hi, 4 means Africa, can you trace his unit moving? Regards Charles
River97 Posted 27 February , 2010 Share Posted 27 February , 2010 Steve, If he was entitled to the trio he must have served O/S. Can you elude to the name and unit of the recipient please. Cheers Andy.
larney Posted 27 February , 2010 Author Share Posted 27 February , 2010 Thanks Charles and Andy for the quick replies. He was Ernest Sidney Blackmore of the Royal Army Medical Corps. He died in Britain on 22 November 1918, and his unit isn't noted with the CWGC. That's all I have on him, except that he is buried at Neyland. Cheers, SteveJ. River97 Posted 27 February , 2010 Share Posted 27 February , 2010 Steve, You need to get one of those free trials with Ancestry as his Service records, 16 pages, have survived. Originally an Engineer and then transferred to the RAMC. Died of Influenza and Bronchitis. After reading his service records - to answer your original question. It's got nothing to do with area 4 or 'Home Service'. Ernest served on the HMHS Aquitania from the date on his MIC. Therefore, the HS stands for Hospital Ship. There you go, Cheers Andy. larney Posted 27 February , 2010 Author Share Posted 27 February , 2010 Brilliant- many thanks to you both. It makes sense now. I'll sort out the Ancestry subscription now, and get hold of the Aquitania WD. SteveJ.
