Guest chrisjones18 Posted 16 May , 2004 Share Posted 16 May , 2004 i am researching my family history. I would like to obtain my Great Grandads service records from WW1. His name was Harry Alfred Sutton, i have found his entry on the CWWG site, he died 28/10/1916 in action from the battle of the Somme, his details are on Thiepeval memorial, i know his service number, his parents names, where he lived and his date of birth. Now, where do i go next to obtain more records? I heard that some of the WW1 records were destroyed in the bombing-however a third were not and apparently the Letter S was the most preserved..so maybe i will be lucky. Do i have to search through reels of film myself? or do i pay a fee and apply to an office to search for me? any help would be great, thanks Chris
salientpoints Posted 16 May , 2004 Share Posted 16 May , 2004 Hi Chris, As a complete amatuer on family history myself, have a look on the mother site here - http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad.htm Also some of the Pals may be able to do a look up for you for a donation to the forum. Michael Posted 16 May , 2004 Share Posted 16 May , 2004 Chris Have a look at the message at the top of this thread. Once you've done some reading, come back and we may be able to help. Mick
