andalucia Posted 20 April , 2010 Share Posted 20 April , 2010 Hi All Can anyone identify this uniform please? I would assume it is pre WW1? looks like a Cavalry maybe from the dress? A friend found it in a family albulm. No idea who it is. Back of photo Cheers Ant
Muerrisch Posted 20 April , 2010 Share Posted 20 April , 2010 RFA or RHA gunner or driver, with one good conduct badge. Dating difficult: the crossed guns badge had a variety of incarnations, but likely to be 3rd class prize battery award c. 1898. He is multi-skilled because he also has the crossed whips and spur badge of the prize [horsed] driver, date similar. So we do not know if his rank is Driver [with gunnery prize] or Gunner [with driving prize]. My money is on driver.

daggers Posted 20 April , 2010 Share Posted 20 April , 2010 The photographer's address in Woolwich adds to Grumpy's expert opinion on the badges, as it was the home of the Royal Artillery for many years. D
David B Posted 20 April , 2010 Share Posted 20 April , 2010 I have a photo of my grandfather (R.A.) taken about 1900 and it shows a similar uniform, especially the pill box cap. David
