Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 1 June , 2004 Share Posted 1 June , 2004 I have had in my possession a BWM/Victory medal pair to this soldier for some time. The only reason I have held onto these was that Pte Johnstone was discharged as a result of being wounded and discharged as 'C.O. ex Lab Corps', which I took to mean he was a conciencious objector! Today at long last I had the chance and time to search for his record - 3 reels of James Johnstone's in WO 363 alone - and I hit gold dust! 1. Far from being a man of peace, Pte Johnstone was a Glaswegian, who enjoyed regular run-ins with the MPs in Ayr & Troon near where he was on HS. 2. After a District Court Martial, Johnstone was shipped off the France in 1918, where he suffered a GSW to his left leg, which left him 30% incapacitated. 3. C.O. - for Concienciuos Objector read Clearing Office. And who said Labour Corps men got no where near the Line! Ian
