pooter Posted 4 June , 2004 Share Posted 4 June , 2004 My wife's grandfather served in India in 1917 with the Royal West Surreys. We have a number of photographs of him out there. We would like to know which battalion he would have been in and where they were posted. The names on the photographs include, Dunrah, Dalhousie and there is a very interesting postcard of the Regimental Badges carved in the cliff side at a place called Cherat. HERITAGE PLUS Posted 4 June , 2004 Share Posted 4 June , 2004 Pooter The 1st/4th Battalion served in India from 3 Dec. 1914 until 18 Sep 1919. They served on the North-West Frontier 1916-17 and Afghanistan (Third Afghan War 1919) This previous thread on the Cherat Badges may be of interest. http://1914-1918.org/forum/index.php?showt...=7090&hl=cherat Dave
pooter Posted 5 June , 2004 Author Share Posted 5 June , 2004 Thank you and for the link to the Cherat badges. My photograph of the Cherat badges does not show as many and has two soldiers from a Scottish Regiment standing in front which gives an idea of the size.
