Guest Nigel999 Posted 5 June , 2004 Share Posted 5 June , 2004 My great Uncle was killed in action whilst serving with the 2nd Northamptons...according to some minor details I have, He was killed on 4th march 1917 when the battalion attacked a feature known as the "Hogs Back" near Bouchavesnes . My uncle was previously 6th batt Northants...and had only recently recovered from gunshot wounds received on the 1st July 1916 ..when the 6th attacked in the Montauban sector of the initial Somme attack. Can anyone point me to some details of the action of the 4th March 1917 ..and indeed where is Bouchavesnes?...I'm assuming its in the Somme region as he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial. Any info gratefully received Nigel
burlington Posted 5 June , 2004 Share Posted 5 June , 2004 This looks like it, at least so far as location is concerned: http://www.webmatters.net/france/ww1_bouchavesnes.htm

Guest Nigel999 Posted 6 June , 2004 Share Posted 6 June , 2004 Thanks folks...from the link supplied...it seems that this part of the line was mainly a French sector....I wonder then..were the Northamptons in support of a french attack on 4th March 1917? Guest Pete Wood Posted 6 June , 2004 Share Posted 6 June , 2004 You probably know that the Hogs Back is an area of countryside, (Guildford area), with a road, that cuts through Surrey.
