Guest rob_yeldham Posted 7 June , 2004 Share Posted 7 June , 2004 I known that my grandfather Willianm Yeldham was a machine gunner in the Grenadier Guards who was gassed (but survived) and fought in Flanders (Ypres) during WWI. Other than a family photo displaying his cap badse and MG badge we have no family records and have not been able to track down any service records to provide info on which battalion he served with. Any suggestions as to how to track down more information? Rob Yeldham
Dave_59 Posted 7 June , 2004 Share Posted 7 June , 2004 His service records should be available from wellington barracks, if you write to them. dave
Ed Matthews Posted 7 June , 2004 Share Posted 7 June , 2004 Hi Rob I have the following information on your relative in my database: Private 19627 William George YELDHAM. Enlisted 3rd October 1914 and discharged 8 November 1918 with wounds. Entitled to Silver War Badge No. B4407 and 1915 Trio. If you contact me off-forum, I'll send you a copy of the original SWB roll page. Hope this helps! Best wishes Ed
Ed Matthews Posted 7 June , 2004 Share Posted 7 June , 2004 I should add that he was discharged from the 5th (Reserve) Battalion but as Dave says, if you write to the Regimental Archivist at Wellington Barracks they should be able to provide you with a copy of his service papers (including which battalion(s) he saw service with).
