Guest SJH Posted 8 June , 2004 Share Posted 8 June , 2004 Apologies in advance if this info is elsewhere on the site but i've had a quick scoot and I couldn't find anything. Just starting out on researching a relatives WWI records. I have his Victory Medal from which i've found the medal roll from documents online. Problem is, being new to this I don't understand all of the info on the card. The details are: Medals: Victory RE/101B 211 British War Medal RE/101B 211 1914-1915 Star RE/7B 1 (I think it is a 1 best I can do) I understand these to be the regiments he would have served in. Can anyone give any pointers? (I know he served in the RE and Labour Corps) Finally in the remarks section is an entry: Class 2 : 16/03/19 (This could be a "2" or a "Z"). I know he entered France on 30/01/15. Thanks in advance for any help.
Chris_Baker Posted 8 June , 2004 Share Posted 8 June , 2004 Hello SJH, welcome to the forum The numbers and letters given against each medal are not references to regiments, but are codes for the original medal rolls. These are held at the National Archives. However, given that he served in the RE and Labour Corps, they will probably not give the units whith which he served. The RE in the code indicates that they are rolls of the Corps of Royal Engineers. The Class is Class Z, which was a form of army reserve to which he was posted in March 1919.
