Hi All,

I am new to this so please forgive me if I make any mistakes.

In trying to find out about my grandfathers service record in WW1, his name was David Rees Jones though at some stage he altered the spelling of Rees to Rhys, I started out by paying a specialist to do a search of the Medal Rolls and he told me that there was only one David Rees Jones in the Royal Welch Fusiliers and that he had been invalided out with head injuries as per para 392 (111) of the Kings Regs after some five months with no overseas service and that he was awarded the Silver War Badge.

I assumed that this was my Grandfather and I have followed this line ever since,

however I was on the PRO online the other night and I discovered that there are a dozen David R Jones listed for the same regiment, as my grandfathers obituary states that he served for five years before being invalided out with head injuries I am a bit confused. I would like to check on these other twelve soldiers on the PRO but at £3.50 a time I can't afford it (I am unemployed at present) would the researcher have seen these documents and discovered that the middle name was not Rees or Rhys and therefore decided not to tekll me about them?

As a footnote the Medal card I have a copy of states that the soldier concerned was "Mutilated" in docks, the word looks like mutilated anyway has anyone seen this word used before to describe a soldiers injuries?

Kind Regards,

Lynn.

here is one: Pte David Rees Jones 4277 1RWF 1914 star, landed F&F 1 Nov 1914, discharged 21 June 1916. Number is very suggestive of being a Special Reservist. Cause of discharge not given.

None on 1914 15 star data base.

None on 2RWF data base.

Good luck

Depends what you paid your researcher to do.

To look up the medal rolls for a dozen David R Jones's is quite a bit of effort, and not guaranteed to eliminate the David Ronald's, David Roger's etc.

Do you know if your researcher looked up his service papers?
