jcebell Posted 17 June , 2004 Share Posted 17 June , 2004 Hi all, We are looking to see if an ancestor of ours, John Nash (born 1880, Kumara, Westland, NZ) served in the First World War. He had seen service in the 2nd Anglo-Boer War (4638, trooper, 26 Coy, 7th NZ Contingent) and we see that he died in Dec 1918. Any help is great appreciated... Davben Posted 18 June , 2004 Share Posted 18 June , 2004 Hi, not sure if you`ve tried this site www.nzdf.mil.nz , once you get onto the site look up the personel section , there you can apply for your relatives service records, nz citizens can recieve one free service record search a year, but more than that and you can expect to pay about 30 dollars. hope this helps. Captain Dave Posted 9 July , 2004 Share Posted 9 July , 2004 Was he in 1 NZEF? I just looked up the CWWGC web site under NZ and could not seem to match him at all. If he was NZ forces then it should be failry easy to locate his service record via Defence Personel Archives as mentioned above.
jcebell Posted 9 July , 2004 Author Share Posted 9 July , 2004 Captain Dave, Thanks for your reply. We believe that our man was in the NZEF as a reinforcement only and probably did not serve abroad. He did survive the War as well. He had two children by the end of the War, so this probably helped to ensure that he remained in New Zealand. We are in the process of contacting the NZDF archives people and hope that they are able to help further... Thanks for replies guys! The Bells.
