Guest Desmond6 Posted 24 June , 2004 Share Posted 24 June , 2004 What do these initials stand for in this context? IC Labour Corps. I have been reading previous postings but I can't find these initials. Des

Desmond7 Posted 24 June , 2004 Share Posted 24 June , 2004 My apologies folks - it's actually I.C. Labour Company. I reckon Chris may be on the mark here. My query does relate to a lot of Ballymena men who joined this formation. Thanks to all. Des
Ivor Lee Posted 25 June , 2004 Share Posted 25 June , 2004 Des Chris is quite correct - ICLC is Irish Command Labour Centre. You sometimes see it as IC Labour Company, on the online MICs if my memory serves me correctly, this is in fact wrong.
Guest Desmond6 Posted 25 June , 2004 Share Posted 25 June , 2004 Ivor and all - thanks very much. I have a sneaking suspicion at this early stage that quite a few of the men who volunteered in the early days of the war are re-enlisting after, I assume, some form of discharge. I know that the RAF attracts a lot of recruits in my area from late summer 1918 onwards. Many of these recruits seem to be familiar names to me from the early part of the war. Nothing further than that ... just a wee hunch. I'm still busily typing in my stuff so I haven't had a chance to do any real checking on this theory. Thanks again - Des
