Can't help you with the MIC, but he is mentioned twice in the London Gazette, re rank - 13th April 1915 issue 29127 link, and 20th March 1917 issue 29994 link.

Cheers Chris,

Now then what does this mean..?

Temp Lieutenant P C F Gibson from actg Captain, Training Reserve, to be tenp Lieutenant (attd) 26 Feb 1917 with seniority from 3rd April 1915

I can see what it says, but what does it mean?

As he was an officer, he may not have an MIC as he may not have claimed his medals; unlike Other Ranks, officers had to claim theirs and many never bothered. The medals to officers were automatically issued to the Next of Kin, however, with no need to claim.

Perhaps he's in the 1% that isn't online yet.

Long shot, but worth a try: Email NA/PRO with request for information if said M.I.C. is one of those being rescanned, damaged or not yet fiched. They offered to look one up for me- I haven't taken them up on it yet though, but good of them to offer. I suggest you stress the need of the M.I.C. info for your article.

Regards,

Matthew
