dennisrichards Posted 23 March , 2011 Share Posted 23 March , 2011 Hi My Great Uncle David Richards was a Pte/L Cpl/Corporal in 1/4th Welsh Bn (53rd Div). His Reg.no. was 3269. He arrived in Suva/Gallipoli on 7 Aug 1915 and presumably evacuated to Egypt with his Bn on 11 Dec 1915. He was discharged on 8 May 1916. Why such a short period of service? Does the low Reg no. indicate he was serving in the territorials for a long time and his service time was up? Or could there be another reason? Wounded? Thanks Dennis
Bernard_Lewis Posted 23 March , 2011 Share Posted 23 March , 2011 Have you looked at Ancestry to see if his service record and medal card survive? If they haven't survived then I suspect it will be difficult/impossible to form a conclusion. Bernard
dennisrichards Posted 24 March , 2011 Author Share Posted 24 March , 2011 Hi Bernard Yes but only his medal card is on ancestry; that's how I know his details and discharge date
